Default changing macs and ip addyz ntl

hi,
im having some probs with changing my ip address, im on a ntl ambit 250 modem conected directly to the net. the modem is using a cloned mac addy.
i've tried using command/ipconfig/release/auto aquire but had no luck.
how do i change it?

basically what i want to do is change the ip, sort summat out, change it again, sort summat out, then finally change it back to its former ip.

if i change the mac addy, can i go back to using the previous one????

some1 please.... dish out some advice.

BIGUP ALL THE ADMIN TEAM!!!!!!!

The IP is dynamic hence is given by the provider when you connect to them. You cannot change this.

Ipconfig won't do it you need to use SMAC to change (spoof) your PC MAC address reboot modem and PC and you should have a different PC IP address.

It's a peculiarity of most routers in as much as if you have already connected to it once it will try to give your machine (or It's unique Mac address) the same IP it had the last time it connected.

But if your talking about changing the IP on the modem then you will need a new (working) mac then use something like the 250 configurator or Ambit tool to change this.

i dont have a router, just the modem.
so.... the pc has an ip address on the ethernet card or somthing along the lines and the modem has a separate ip address.
am i right?

using a few working mac addresses and the 250 configurator, would i be able to change back and forth between ip addresses, and would i be able to change back and forth between pc ip addresses, whilst assinging 1 to each modem mac and ip address.

i hope im clear in what im wanting to achieve.

thanks for teaching a novice guys, i really appreciate the help.

If you use SMAC to change you PC mac details the modem once rebooted should give your PC another different IP.This is prolly the fastest way of switching IP's quickly.

Changing the Mac on the Modem (using the 250 Configurator Ambit tool etc) should also give your PC a different IP addy (after modem reboot) but means finding good working mac's to use for every change.

Sorry If It confused by mentioning routers I was in fact talking about V*rgin's UBR's which assign the IP addresses.
Both devices Modem and Nic have mac addy's but only the PC will have an IP.

If you look at your network connection settings you should see something like this:

IP Address (or IPV4 in Vista) 82.62.95.21
Subnet mask 255.255.252.0
Default Gateway 82.62.95.2 this is the UBR
DHCP server 62.99.99.99 This is the TFTP server
