Default Problem with sky + box (Thomson)

I have just bought a Thomson sky plus box from a guy down the road and when I put it on the box comes on to sky channel 998 then goes of and It also takes 3-4 mins to come on.So i would just like to know if anyone here would know what the problem is. Thanks in Advance.

Check your connections, especially the LNB cable. Make sure none of the braid is touching the inner core.

If all is well there, it's probably a faulty PSU. I would ask your neighbour for your money back.

Standard time for it to boot up anyway....this is how long mine takes

Try a hard drive reset but you will lose all your recorded programs.
unplug power
hold left and right arrows in on front of box and reconnect the power
hold buttons in for about 25 seconds
the recording playback light should light up( the circle) and start spinning
press select
leave for a couple of minutes and this should bring it out of standby

you shouldnt be bothered about losing all the recordings as they will be your neighbours recordings and if your not subbed to sky you wont be able to record....

is there even a card in the box ??
